Some wonderful ideas I found for Survivor bags. Love, love, love the internet!!!!! Survivors are why we Relay.
Our goody bags had more than candy in them, but I will share it with you. I am hoping to find something a little different for this year, if anyone else has an idea I would love to hear it.
Lifesavers-in honor of those who are always there for you,
Pencil & Paper-to count your blessings,
A noise maker-to celebrate your life!
Tissues-for the sad times,
Gum-for the stressful times,
A penny-for luck,
Smarties-in thanks for knowledgeable doctors and nurses,
A rubber band and paperclips-to help you hold it together,
A crayon-because each day we "leave our mark" on the world,
Flower seeds-to represent the beauty of life,
Chocolate hugs and kisses-because one can never have enough,
A piece of string-so you never forget how wonderful you are!!
I am a cancer survivor and last year was my first year to be Survivor Chair. I purchased Relay for Life medals and got stick on metallic numbers (like those used on homecoming mums) donated by a local florist. When the survivors checked in they were honored with a medal and a hug. They were asked how many years of survivorship they had and then that number was put on one side of the ribbon that the medal was attached to. It was amazing to see the number of years of survivorship in one place.
We have a group of "senior ladies" knitting lapwarmers, in purple/white and pink/white to give to the survivors at their dinner at the relay this year. This may be tough to get done this year, but you could keep it in mind for next year and start looking for donations of yarn and knitters to make them........Happy relaying
We did something similar to this a couple years ago. We wrote the word HOPE on the stone and then put the stone in a small, purple organza bag (purchased inexpensively at a local chain craft store). We then tied a card to the bag and the card read:
"As a cancer survivor or someone involved with Relay for Life, you represent HOPE for someone newly diagnosed. There is an old saying that a stone cast upon the water makes an immediate splash and waves ripple outward in ever- widening circles. Use this stone to send HOPE to others on their cancer journey. Please keep it only until you know someone who has received a diagnosis of cancer. Then, pass it to them as a personal symbol of HOPE. Cast a ripple out into the world that reaches out to cancer patients and their families. Together, we can let them know they are not alone, we care about them, and there is HOPE!"
Our survivors thought they were great!

Mark and Mary party like it's 1999!
Mark and I attended a party for my work group. We'd made a challenge and one of the perks was a big ole party. Harp music included.
Ah, we know we're in the right place.
Man, 'intel' was everywhere! Even getting drinks.
Even at the stage. Intel Inside!
Right before dinner we had some lovely entertainment.
Right after dinner some really good treats. And the lighting wrecked havoc with picture taking.
Our table was directly below 'the big guys'. Here they're posing for a picture and I belive doing a video. We were bad: we thought about climbing on the chairs and making peace signs behind them.....okay, so I thought about climbing on a chair and making a peace sign.
My friends Tim and Kseniya were at our table, and we had so much fun with them.
Some of the centerpieces were a bit 'strange'. It looked like broccoli and flowers coming out of it.....interesting.
The band that performed was really good. My first thought was to get them for Relay. I'm so bad that way!
They handed out light up hats, glasses, gloves, and boas. Looky what Mark got.
Looky what I got. :)
Fun was had. Thanks Intel!!! You always throw us such fun, fun parties!!!!

Family ROCKS!!!
Mark and I drove to Washington to see Matt and Sandra. We stopped to call and see if we were on the correct route (we were). I got a kick out of this sign.
Their home on the river is amazing! Sandra has done a wonderful job of decorating. The views are so refreshing.
Matt and Mark had so much fun hanging out.
Matt brought out an old pellet gun and they did some target shooting.
Fun was had. Matt had a direct shot as well!
These two had so much fun just being together. They're the best of brothers.
Sandra and I had a lot of fun as well, talking and catching up and hiking. Here we walked up the hill behind their house. Isn't this beautiful?
This is a little cabin across the street.
This is one of the views from their deck.
See? They were having fun.
Oh Mark, you silly boy!
Sandra and I wandered down to the bridge across the river.
And then we stopped by her step-dad's house. He and his wife introduced me to their chickens.

I want one of these!!! Oh Sandra, you funny, funny girl! I love our family!!!!!!
Stonehedge
Mark and I took off Saturday morning to see Matt and Sandra. Lovely Oregon weather on our way....sigh......
Lovely views. Sam Hill, who built the memorial, chose a perfect spot to honor those young men. He's buried right down below where I'm standing.
There are plaques for each young man on the memorial. Dewey shares a birthday with Doug and Megan: he was so young when he died. Thanks to Sam Hill Dewey, and the other young men, will never be forgotten.
We stopped by the recreation of Stonehedge. It's a memorial to the local young men killed in WWI. Very touching.

Relay this and that
I'm so mad! I spent so much time adding pictures, and I guess I added one too many......the dang thing locked up on me and won't load the pictures! Dumb ole blog. It's late, so I'll try again, but I wanted my Dad and my mother-in-law to see a bit of Relay. I'll give it a go soon and ensure you catch up. I love you!!!
This was the 10th year for Hillsboro Relay For Life, and our team has been a part of it from day one. We're very proud of that.
This young lady was new to Relay: her mom brought her along, and I so enjoyed getting to know her. What a sweet heart!

Mascot Style
When walking at Relay it's usual for a team to have something to carry to show they're the person walking for their team. Here's ours. Cute, eh?
