Spring

As I walked into our bedroom last night, I noticed how amazing the view is outside my window. How beautiful our cherry tree is.

It makes me happy.

The flowers are bright and cheery.

For Mark, he looks outside the window and sees grass that needs to be mowed.

And once he gets outside, he sees even more grass that needs to be mowed.

I see a beautiful cherry tree and I don't have to do nothing, except go out and pick myself some cherries once they come in. I LIKE my life! No lawn mowing. Love that.

Deacon wishes he could go outside with dad and mow the lawn too.

Man with cake

Why do I love my husband so much? He brings me CAKE!!!! COSTCO CAKE at that! I LOVE Costco cake. Oh yes I do. And I adore the gals at Beaverton Foods who think of me when they have Costco cake, and ensure my husband had Costco cake to give to his wife. Life is good!

I baked up a bunch of cupcakes to take to the house, putting cute little Easter bonnets on some of them, Easter theme rings on others, and crazy green bunnies on others. Looked very festive.

And some had sprinkles, and some had green coconut and jelly beans. There were bunnies. Chicks. Stuff.

I had a meeting in Portland for the upcoming Stitch and Pitch. I had some time to kill, so I found a bakery (figures) and I had to buy this cookie. I decided I wanted to try and do something like it so I took a picture.

The problem? I have to say the cookie did NOT taste good at all. The frosting was hard and didn't taste good. So, I'll see what I can come up with, but if it doesn't taste good, it's out of there. History.

Mary the Baker Lady

Lindsay from the RMH sent me this picture she took. Yep, that's me: Mary, the Baker Lady.

I can't wait to begin working on my treats for Easter: I have some cute ideas, and I do love me some pastels. Perfect for Easter time, some pretty pinks, sunny yellows, and fresh greens. And with two young men in the house, pastels are sadly lacking in my house at this time.

Ellie Rose

Today was a great day. The sun was shining, and Ellie Rose came over to play. Is she not a doll?

Deacon was VERY jealous. Not mean at all, in fact he was VERY gentle with her. But he did want to be in the middle of everything she was involved with, and he wanted us to LOOK AT HIM. Crazy dog. Ellie took it all in stride. She was as good as could be. And I mean it: good as gold.

We took a walk to Metzger School, hung out a while, went down a slide or two, and enjoyed the sunshine (heck, it's Oregon: you never know how long it's gonna last).

Then it was time for Peek:

A BOO!

She has this down pat. My kind of gal.

She has her own laptop, and she's very computer savvy.

She liked hanging out with Steven and Doug, and they liked hanging out with her. She was in great spirits all day, smiling, laughing, and was very busy all day. We all really enjoyed her company. She's very loved, and it shows.

Okay, so she did have some problems trying to get the bowl.

I tried helping out, was informed, quite firmly I might add, that my help was not needed, and she spent quite some time trying to get that bowl to fit through the slats. Hey, it kept her busy, she was enjoying it, so I told her go for it girlfriend!

Finally her batteries ran out, and she crashed. Man, she's even cuter asleep. I didn't think she could be any cuter. What a fun day.

That darn cat

Remember these? Small hamburgers that weren't hamburgers?

Yesterday I received a wonderful thank you note from the wonderful folks at the Ronald McDonald House. Lots of folks signed it, thanking me for the AFD treats.

I am the lucky one, and I'm so thankful, that I get to do this for them. I enjoy going online looking for ideas for cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. Ideas for holiday treats. And I love going to the library and checking out books. I make myself a cup of tea and day dream about baking everything I see, baking to my full heart's desire. I am so lucky.

As I was reviewing the different blogs, day dreaming again, cupcakes and cookies dancing in my head, I noticed the cat enjoying the sunshine.

Her leg will never be the same, but she's moving around just fine, and she seems content with life. Especially when she gets to sleep with Doug (her new favorite), and when she gets to sit on a window sill. AND if the window is open, that is the bomb to her! She can stay there all day, just hanging out. This darn ole cat.

She left the window to come and sit with me. I love this picture of her. Sweetness.

Happy April Fool's Day everyone!

Been busy getting ready for today: April Fool's Day! Time to celebrate! And HOW you ask do you celebrate AFD? For me, a mixer is involved.

A nice, plain, white frosted cupcake comes into play.

Pretzel sticks, white chocolate, and yellow M&Ms play their parts, and some runts to add color.

Eggs and bacon anyone?

Nice plain white cupcakes, a yellow Starburst, and some carmel topping. Mashed potatoes and gravy anyone?

Nice plain white cupcakes, orange Starbursts cut up, and greens runts wanted to join in. And some Startbursts for even more color. Peas and carrots for all!

Put them all together and they made some fun times for the folks staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Lindsay and all loved them! I am so lucky that I have this opportunity to do something I love and share it with others. How fun is this?

Oh, and some hamburgers found their way here. Or should I say some vanilla wafers, Keebler carmel cookies, some green and red frosting, and some sesame seeds?

Happy April Fool's Day. Remember to not take life so seriously all the time. Remember to have fun. That's what it's all about.

Ronald IS a bit blurry...

Yesterday I went to the House, brought along some chocolate cupcakes (they were good. don't ask how I know), and baked up a batch of chocolate chip cookies. One family came in while I was doing this, and their boys promptly gravitated to them. One of the boys, around 5, was thrilled when I put out more warm cookies. The look on his face is what makes me love doing this.

After baking the batch of warm chocolate chip cookies that made cute little boys smile, I walked across the street to Legacy Hospital to watch the cast of Wicked perform. For the first half hour the kids got to make masks and magic wands. I should have asked if I could make a wand.

I think this would be something fun to do at Relay, and not just for the kids. I think we all need a magic wand from time to time, no matter how old we are.

Ronald McDonald himself was there, and yes: he is blurry. You haven't lost you mind. My camera is not working when it comes to zooming in. Great. Talked to Cari and she said I can use her camera: she has a new one. My blog is saved!

I love my daughter. She's not only talented, but shares well with others. Hey Linda, looks like those crack smoking wolves really didn't have anything to do with her raising. Thank goodness!

Folks were everywhere, watching the show.

The cast sang a song from the show (the gal in the cool hat plays the green witch: heck, I don't know the character's name). They then went on to each sing a song, mainly Disney songs. Well done, and very enjoyable!

This little girl's father is in the show (no, she is NOT Ronald's child, it's the guy next to him. grow up!), she's five, and she sang two songs. She is set to be a performer, let me tell you.

Ronald mentioned how much he loved seeing how proud her dad was of her, and reminded parents in the crowd that they needed to show their kids how proud they were of them. He then asked the kids in the crowd to raise their hands if they thought they had the best parents in the world, and almost every hand went up. Sweet.

You think you have it rough? Look at the monitoring system for this young man, with his nurse checking the status. Can you imagine having to deal with all that every time you take your child anywhere?

His nurse sat in front of me, joining his wife and her mother (and yes, his wife raised her hand to indicate she thought her mother was the best. and yes, her mother loved it), and he would get up every once in a while and check on the equipment. He gave the family some space, letting them have a moment together as a family. They're staying at the house, and they're very nice.

On my walk back to the house I followed some of the cast. They'd parked in the House's parking lot. That's the house in the background.

Okay, story of my life. Pictures of Ronald and the cast of Wicked come out blurry. Pictures of sweet and lovely and tasty cupcakes come out amazing. This needs to end. Now.

Wait til you see what I have planned for April Fool's Day!
